Fundur með erindi

Fundur verður í Íslenska stærðfræðafélaginu þriðjudaginn 1. mars í húsnæði Verzlunarskóla Íslands við Ofanleiti 1. Gestir eru beðnir um að ganga inn um aðalinngang skólans sem snýr að Kringlunni. Þar verður tekið á móti þeim og þeim vísað á réttan stað.

Fundurinn hefst með veitingum að hefðbundnum hætti frá kl. 16:45. Að þeim loknum, eða klukkan 17:15, mun Luca Aceto, prófessor við tölvunarfræðideild Háskólans í Reykjavík flytja erindið Computer Science and Logic: A Match Made in Heaven.

During the past thirty years there has been extensive, continuous, and growing interaction between logic and computer science. In many respects, logic provides computer science with both a unifying foundational framework and a tool for modeling. In fact, logic has been called „the calculus of computer science“.

In this mostly informal talk, which is meant to be accessible to a general audience, I will try to provide an overview of the surprising effectiveness of logic in computer science by presenting some of the areas in which logic has played a crucial role in computer science.
